Hello! Welcome to Room 501
Teaching History/Experience
I've been teaching in the San Diego Unified School District for over 23 years. My classroom teaching experience has been with students in both kindergarten and first grade. In addition, I have served as a Reading Recovery teacher and an English Learner Resource Teacher at both the school site and district level.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe children are naturally curious and motivated to learn. My goal is to guide your child in a way that develops and inspires that curiosity, while promoting the habits of responsible citizenship. Learning is fun and I work to keep it that way!

Interests/Hobbies
I love doing any sport that involves wheels: bike riding, roller skating, and skateboarding are among them! I've ridden my bike from San Francisco to San Diego, twice, as part of a fundraising effort with the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), a non-profit that is near and dear to my heart. Several motivational speakers from CAF have come to our school to share their stories with our students. I also enjoy anything to do with animals, traveling, reading, music, and spending time with family and friends.
Favorites
Watching documentaries and reading non-fiction texts are my favorite ways to spend quiet time. I enjoy learning about inspirational people and make an effort to share these stories with my students. If I had to choose one type of food to eat for the rest of my life, I would be hard pressed to choose between Mexican, Ethiopian/Abyssinian, and Thai food.
Links to other resources
The most commonly used web-based resources I use with students and parents include: ClassDojo, Mystery Science, ST Math, Spelling City, Reading A-Z, Benchmark Advanced, Tumble Books, EPIC Books, and Scholastic News.
