Principal's Notes
Dear Normal Heights Families,
Welcome to an exciting new school year at Normal Heights Elementary School! The staff is thrilled that you have entrusted your children's education to us. We will make every effort to help your child achieve academically and socially this year. It is our goal to create an enriched learning environment that engages each student. Of course, we need and welcome your support and cooperation. Normal Heights has an excellent teaching and support staff with a wealth of knowledge, both working in different capacities to support your child's learning.
I'd like to congratulate our students and staff for all their efforts. The hard work has paid off. I am pleased to announce that our state API scores have risen to a 816, along with an API rank of 6 and a 9 among similar schools. More students at Normal Heights are Proficient or Advanced on the California Standards Test than ever before. An API of 800 is needed for consideration of a California Distinguished School.
Our successful Breakfast in the Classroom program continues this year. A warm, nutritious breakfast will be served to each student each morning. Students get to eat with their classmates and get the fuel they need to optimize learning for the day. I also encourage parents and students to continue their morning walking routine by participating in our morning walking club everyday at 8:45am. Morning exercise gets the brain and body ready to learn.
We encourage parents to become active in our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA is a wonderful way for you to share ideas and support the mission of the school. In early September you will receive nomination forms to join our School Site Council (SSC), Site Governance Team (SGT), and our English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). I encourage you to serve on these very important committees. Another way to get involved is to volunteer by helping tutor students, chaperone field trips, or by supporting the teacher in the classroom. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Cynthia Calderon, in the front office.
Finally, if your child needs additional support or if you have a concern, please do not hesitate to contact his/her teacher. It is our mission to support your child in whatever way we can. Normal Heights Elementary is proud to offer the resources that support students and their families. Working together makes a difference in the lives of our students.

Estimadas Familias de la Escuela Normal Heights,
Bienvenidos al nuevo año escolar en la escuela Primaria Normal Heights! El personal esta contento de que nos haya confiado la educación de su hijo(a). Haremos todos los esfuerzos para que su alumno destaque académica y socialmente este año. Nuestra meta es crear un ambiente académico rico que atraiga a cada estudiante. Por supuesto que necesitamos y agradecemos su apoyo y cooperación. La Escuela Normal Heights cuenta con una facultad y personal de apoyo, ambos con inmensos conocimientos trabajando bajo varias capacidades para apoyar el aprendizaje de su niño(a).
Me gustaría felicitar a los estudiantes y al personal por todos sus esfuerzos este año pasado. Todo su trabajo ha dado resultado. Tengo el gusto de reportar que nuestra puntuación de API (Índice de Desempeño Académico) ha subido a 816; ganamos 18 puntos. Más estudiantes salieron Competentes o Avanzados en la Prueba Estandarizada de California que los años pasados. Una puntuación de 800 nos da consideración para ser una Escuela Distinguida por California.
El exitoso programa de Desayuno en el Salón continúa este año. Un desayuno nutritivo se le servirá a cada estudiante todas las mañanas. Los alumnos comen con sus compañeros y toman el combustible que necesitan para optimizar su aprendizaje en la mañana. También invito a padres y alumnos a continuar la rutina de caminar por las mañanas participando en el Club de Caminata que comienza a las 8:45am diariamente. Ejercitarse por la mañana despierta al cuerpo y al cerebro y los alista para aprender.
Los animo a participar en la Asociación de Padres y Maestros(PTA). El PTA es una gran manera de que usted comparta sus ideas para apoyar la misión de nuestra escuela. En septiembre recibirá las balotas de nominaciones para el Consejo Consultivo del Plantel (SSC), el Equipo Gubernativo del Plantel (SGT), y el Comité Asesorativo para Estudiantes en Vías de Aprender Ingles (ELAC). Los invito a participar en estos comités importantes. Otra forma de involucrarse en la escuela es siendovoluntario—ayudando con tutoría de estudiantes, como chaperón en los paseos, y organizando celebraciones en los salones. Si le interesa ser voluntario(a), favor de contactar la Coordinadora de Voluntarios, Cynthia Calderon, en la Oficina.
Finalmente, si su hijo(a) necesita apoyo adicional o si tiene alguna pregunta, no dude en contactar al(a) maestro(a). Apoyar a su estudiante es nuestra misión. En la Primaria Normal Heights tenemos los recursos para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes y sus familias. Trabajando juntos hacemos la diferencia en las vidas de nuestros estudiantes.
